Biohacking Your Health: What We Learned

Biohacking Your Health: What We Learned

Thank you for your patience with us as we attended the 8th Annual Biohacking Conference hosted by Dave Asprey. This year we took the entire Tennant Products team to ensure each person was up to speed on the very latest and greatest information in the biohacking space.

What Is ‘‘Biohacking’’?

So glad you asked! Biohacking is using technology, or innovation, to ‘‘hack’’ the body’s system to achieve desired results.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

This can be anything from bioavailable supplements with all the right cofactors, so your body doesn’t have to do anything more to break them down. Or getting a two-hour workout on the bike in just 20 minutes. Anything that can radically support BDNF (Brain-Derived Nootropic Factor) or mitochondrial health are often considered ‘biohacks’.

We Attended & the Information was Incredible!

We heard from Dave Asprey, Dr. Gundry, Dr. Mercola, and leading minds in neuroscience, brain health, nutrition, and stem cells...one thing prevailed.

Tennant Products still have the best ingredients at a better cost,
and they actually work in the body (just as they always have).

One of the key messages was that mitochondrial health is key for optimal health and healthy aging. Mitochondria are found in each cell in the body and are considered to be the ‘powerhouse of the cell’ creating energy for the cell to use. There are mitochondria throughout the body. The brain and the heart have significantly more mitochondria than the rest of the body.

Helping these mitochondria function is one of the main facets of ‘‘biohacking’’ and can radically change the energy in one’s life.

Did You Know That Mitochondrial Health is Connected with Aging?

You can vastly decrease your cellular age by giving the cells what they need to thrive, and in the form the cells can use!

Polyphenols

Polyphenols are just one example of how the mitochondria can thrive. Polyphenols are good for the gut, but they are also good for supporting mitochondrial health. Phenols are thought to be potent life-saving compounds that help uncouple the mitochondria.

When the body uncouples mitochondria, the body saves its ATP (adenosine triphosphate—“energy molecule” found in mitochondria). Studies have shown that some of the world’s oldest populations have the most uncoupled mitochondria. The more uncoupled mitochondria in the gut, the better the gut health! Read more about this in Martin Brand’s paper ‘‘Uncoupling to Survive’’ .

What Can You Do?

EAT A RAINBOW

A practical example of this would be ‘eating the rainbow’ at a meal (eating fruits and vegetables of different colors). When a person eats the rainbow, they ingest many different polyphenols and these polyphenols send signals to the mitochondria and uncouple them.

DRINK BLACK COFFEE

Coffee has wonderful polyphenols! If milk or cream are added, these interfere with the polyphenols and don’t have the uncoupling effect. In short, if you want to drink coffee for mitochondrial health, drink it black.

Speaking of coffee, there are two other things that we’ve learned: coffee depletes minerals, and coffee is one of the leading sources for mold. We know that coffee is a stimulant. Caffeine in coffee creates the perceived heightened awareness by generating a stress response in the body. This response creates a rush in the body to remove the substance. During this process, it can also flush out essential minerals and nutrients.

Mold and mycotoxins (toxins produced by mold) are most often found in coffee. This is thought to be because of how the coffee is processed for mass consumption. Mold affects the body in many ways, but one specific way is by attacking the function of mitochondria .

Coffee hack: If you drink coffee, ensure that the coffee you’re drinking is mold and mycotoxin free (should say this on the label or packaging) and also replace your micro and trace nutrients that might be lost in the process. Something like Dave Asprey's Danger coffee or Kion coffee should help do the trick.

You Might Already Be a Biohacker if...

If you’re already trying to decrease your cellular age so you can live a longer, healthier life, or if you are doing things to help you heal faster, think more clearly, or simply increasing your energy throughout the day...chances are you’re already biohacking your system.

Thank you again for your patience with us as we continue to learn, progress, and strive to create the best possible products with the purest ingredients on the planet. We are grateful for you and look forward to sharing more highlights and innovations as they come along!

Sincerely,

The Tennant Team
